Fabian Wegmann, Munich’s “climbing specialist” saw another win here in Frankfurt today. The annual cycle race, “Rund um den Finanzplatz Eschborn-Frankfurt”, formerly known as “Rennen von Eschborn nach Frankfurt”, managed to set detours around Frankfurt while its participants from all over the world graced the roadways from up the Taunus Mountains, through Eschborn and around Frankfurt’s Financial Centre. Wegmann, winner of last year’s race, won for the second time in a row.
This was truly a remarkable win because he was still recovering from a broken collar bone in March. Frankfurters welcomed his win and we were there behind the scenes to capture, perhaps, Wegmann receiving his most valued prize – a kiss from his number one fan, his girlfriend?
Wegmann, who currently rides for the UCI ProTour Team Milram later told reporters that if it were not for his team mates and the strategy they set up for allowing Wegmann the opportunity to “do his thing”, then this win would have never happened. He did state that at the beginning of the race, he did feel the pain from the bruise on his chest but that soon after, the pain was forgotten and his mind was focused on the race. Wegmann will be travelling to Amsterdam this Wednesday, May 5th for the 93rd Edition of Giro d’Italia. We wish our German cyclist the best of luck!
Go Wegmann Go!
